How can you tell a story you haven’t lived? Study it.
How can you tell a story you’ll never understand?
Let whitewashed Hollywood determine that.
CC is extremely disappointed in Matt Damon. And not only because she watched that ridiculous movie “The Informant” (under duress!! 🚑 ⇝👉💪), but also because of the subliminal he represents.
She thought he was one of the “cool’ ones. Capable of objectivity and enlightenment. He’s starring in a show, on CC’s beloved HBO designed to give a break to a new star. What would the problem be?
And then this happened.
In one sentence, 20 seconds or less, he explained white male privilege better than any guilt piece, protest statement, video, police ‘incident’, or murder ever could. Read that again. Because CC means it. Culture is and has always been defined and communicated through its entertainment. It’s media. From the third world to the first.
What else drive values, merchandise, “norms”, and prejudices as much?
CC would empathize, but wouldn’t have the audacity to pretend to accurately dictate the truth of a white man’s emotions. Or a gay man. Or a Syrian woman. They would tell it better and we would all benefit. CC is optimistic though. For the past 6 weeks, minorities have ruled the box office. Asians and Indians are featured in prominent prime time roles. Shonda’s still Shonda and will not be shaken, and maybe, just maybe people are waking up.
So how can you tell a story you’ll never understand?
Let someone tell it who does.
Or better yet, be an artist, and find a way to create our own!
